BREAKING: Public Holiday Declared for Tuesday in Tribute to Late President Buhari

The Federal Government has set aside Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after receiving approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The announcement is part of the ongoing national mourning period which began on Sunday, following Buhari’s death in a London hospital.

According to the minister, the day will serve as a time for Nigerians to remember and reflect on the former president’s decades of service to the nation, both as a military leader and as a democratically elected head of state.

“President Buhari led with conviction, discipline, and a deep sense of national purpose,” the minister stated. “This holiday offers an opportunity for the country to celebrate his contributions to Nigeria’s growth and unity.”

Citizens were also encouraged to mark the day by promoting peace, unity, and love for country—principles the late president was known to uphold throughout his life.

As earlier directed, national flags are to remain at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which began on July 13.

The Federal Government extended its sympathies to the late president’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
