The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has explained that the ongoing power outage in Calabar and surrounding areas of Cross River is due to heavy rainfall and a strong windstorm in the region.
The blackout occurred on May 7, when severe weather between 4:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. damaged the power lines operated by PHED. This disruption left many parts of Calabar and nearby areas without electricity.
Mrs. Olubukola Ilevbare, the Head of Corporate Communications at PHED, spoke about the incident, confirming that the storm’s impact on their infrastructure caused the outage. She assured that efforts are being made to restore power as soon as possible.
Ilevbare also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the power cut and sympathized with those whose properties were affected by the storm. She urged affected customers to be patient as PHED’s technical team works to resolve the situation.
