A police officer attached to Operation Restore Peace has been shot dead by suspected bandits in Adabka village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday at about 11:44 a.m., when the officer, deployed from Mopol 15, Ilorin, Kwara State, left his duty post in Adabka and travelled to Tibis village to purchase essential supplies.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the officer was ambushed at the outskirts of Adabka by armed men concealed in nearby bushes. The attackers opened fire, killing him instantly before fleeing with his service riot gun.
A source said field personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the officer’s remains, which were evacuated to the Adabka Primary Health Care Centre for documentation.
“The attackers operated using tactics similar to bandit factions loyal to the Dan-Karama Gwaska and Dansadau networks, known for precision ambushes and rapid withdrawal,” another security source disclosed.
As of press time, the Zamfara State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the killing. Attempts by Newsmen to reach the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls.
Zamfara has witnessed a spike in bandit activities in recent weeks, resulting in increased casualties among civilians and security personnel.
