The All Progressives Congress has welcomed the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The party’s National Working Committee expressed happiness over his decision and assured him of full support and cooperation as he joins their ranks.
According to the APC, Eno’s move is expected to contribute positively to the development of Akwa Ibom State and benefit its people.
Governor Eno explained that his decision to leave the PDP and join the APC was motivated by his desire to back the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He stressed that the switch was made from a position of strength rather than weakness.
This defection follows a similar move by the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who also left the PDP for the APC a few weeks earlier.
After joining the APC, Governor Eno asked his commissioners and political appointees to either follow him into the party or resign their posts.
While some agreed, at least one commissioner chose to resign instead of joining the APC.
