Aiyedatiwa Proposes N16 Billion Budget for OSOPADEC

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has proposed an appropriation bill totaling N16 billion for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) to the state House of Assembly.

The bill designates N3 billion for recurrent expenditure and N13 billion for capital expenditure in 2024.

Majority Leader Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi emphasized the bill’s importance in meeting the commission’s mandate and urged fellow lawmakers to contribute meaningfully.

Several legislators, including Olawumi Fayemi and Steven Abitogun, expressed support for the bill, highlighting the necessity for OSOPADEC to address the multifaceted challenges faced by oil-producing areas.

Dr. Christopher Ogunlana called for the establishment of a task force to monitor the commission’s spending, citing the lack of basic infrastructure in the mandate areas despite previous fund allocations.

Concerns were also raised about the recent raid of clubhouses in Akure by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ogunmolasuyi criticized the manner of the raid, citing cases of brutality and emphasizing the need for professionalism in law enforcement.

The Speaker, Chief Olamide Oladiji, urged EFCC to conduct arrests with care and ensure that only the guilty are prosecuted.

He called for an end to illegal activities among youths and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing alternatives for legitimate livelihoods
