The Presidential Election Petition Court has announced an adjournment to Thursday, May 18, 2023, for the continuation of the pre-hearing of the petition brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The petition, which has been marked as CA/PEPC/05/2023, challenges the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The PDP and Atiku Abubakar are seeking to contest the election results based on their concerns and allegations.
The three respondents listed in the petition are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bola Tinubu, and the All Progressive Congress (APC). They have been given the opportunity to respond to the allegations and present their case before the court.
The pre-hearing of the petition commenced on Thursday morning, with the counsel for Atiku and the PDP, Chris Uche SAN, expressing his interest in the matter. Uche stated, “I have the permission of Wole Olanikpekun to indicate interest first in number 2.”
The adjournment to May 18th allows all parties involved to adequately prepare their arguments and gather any necessary evidence for the court proceedings. It is essential for the court to provide a fair and thorough examination of the petition to ensure justice and transparency.
