Adebayo Adewole has made it clear that he has no plans to step down for Atiku Abubakar in the race for the 2027 presidential election.
The former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said he would not give up his ambition for anyone, including Atiku, and insisted that the SDP cannot be used as a vehicle by others to achieve their political goals.
He made this known on Wednesday night during a TV interview while responding to growing speculation about a possible alliance among opposition figures.
There are reports that some top politicians, including Atiku, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, are exploring the idea of joining forces to face President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Reacting to suggestions that Atiku may be considering the SDP as an alternative platform, Adebayo firmly stated that the party cannot be taken over by anyone for personal reasons.
He stressed that anyone who wants to run under the SDP must follow the rules and go through the proper process.
He added that while the SDP is open to people who share its values and vision, it cannot be used by any individual or group for shortcuts.
According to him, the party belongs to Nigerians and not to any single politician.
