You Tortured, Broke Sowore’s Hands– Adeyanju Counters Police

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of torturing former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, during his recent detention, contradicting the Force’s official denial.

The police had on Friday night dismissed allegations of torture, describing a viral image of Sowore with a bandaged arm as “mischievously presented to mislead the public and stir unwarranted outrage.”

Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, is under investigation over alleged cyberstalking and other related offences.

Reacting on his official Facebook page, Adeyanju claimed the police’s account was untrue, alleging that officers under the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, physically assaulted Sowore.

“You are a liar. The Nigeria Police headed by the illegal IGP Egbetokun, the most useless IG in the history of the NPF, tortured Sowore and broke his hands. And you will all pay for your crimes,” Adeyanju wrote.

As of press time, the police had not issued a response to Adeyanju’s fresh accusations.
