World’s Oldest Person Dies at 116

Inah Canabarro Lucas, a Brazilian nun, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 116.

She had survived a challenging childhood and lived a life dedicated to faith.

Canabarro, who became the world’s oldest person earlier this year after the death of Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka, attributed her longevity to God and her religious order.

Born on June 8, 1908, Canabarro joined the Congregation of Teresian Sisters of Brazil in 1934 at the age of 26. She lived through both World Wars and was known for her strong devotion.

For her 110th birthday, she received a special blessing from Pope Francis.

With her death, the title of the world’s oldest person has passed to Ethel Caterham from Surrey, England, who is currently 115 years old.

The announcement of Canabarro’s death was made by her religious order, which expressed gratitude for her dedication and commitment.

Her passing makes her the 15th-oldest documented person in history and the second-oldest nun ever, after Lucile Randon of France, who lived to 118.

Despite being frail as a child, Canabarro’s life defied early expectations, and she lived to a remarkable age.
