Workers of the Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, (RUGIPO) have begun a three day warning strike over non-payment of 10 months salary arrears.
Starnews Nigeria reports that the workers under the umbrella of the Non-Academic Staff Union, said they can no longer cope with the situation.Their decision to go on strike was contained in a circular jointly signed by the Chairman Non-Academic Staff Union [NASU], and the secretary of the Union, Comrade Adewumi V.A.
The statement reads: “Based on our last congress, on the issue of our salary arrears, which we agreed upon that if the management is unable to meet our demands, we will embark on a three-day warning strike.”
In addition, we all know that the management did not meet with our demands, as at today, 13th August 2021 and we are now acting on declaration of strike action agreed in the congress of three-day warning strike as from 12:00am on 16th August, 2021.
They noted that the government had earlier promised to pay the arrears, which it did not fulfill.
Donald Ojogo, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation could not be reached on the phone when contacted by Starnews Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Olu–Braimoh has urged the Students of Rufus Giwa polytechnic Owo( RUGIPO) to prepare for the forthcoming Examination scheduled to commence on Monday, August 16, 2021.
He said in a telephone interview that the examination would hold despite the three days warning Strikes by the Non-Academic Union (NASU).
” It’s true that NASU has decided to embark on a 3-day warning strike, starting from Monday to Wednesday.
“It’s also a fact that Examinations will commence on Monday. “Discussions are ongoing for a possible resolution of the impasse before Monday”
“I advise students to be on the safe side, they should get Prepared for the Examination as scheduled”, he added
