The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has told members of his cabinet that only those who are doing their jobs well will remain in office.
He made this known on Monday during the opening of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba.
Oborevwori addressed ongoing rumours about plans to dissolve the State Executive Council, saying there is no general plan to remove everyone.
However, he was clear that commissioners who are not meeting expectations will be replaced.
According to him, performance is what matters, not gossip or reports behind people’s backs.
He pointed out that a few commissioners are already not meeting up with their responsibilities and have been informed about it.
He explained that some people have been spreading rumours without confirming anything, which shows how quickly information gets twisted.
The governor said commissioners must show they are working by being visible and active in their ministries.
He made it clear that it is not the governor’s job to go looking for his commissioners; they must take the lead and make sure their work speaks for them.
Oborevwori also noted that each commissioner will be held responsible for the condition of their ministry, whether good or bad.
He explained that ministries doing well are a sign that the person in charge is putting in the needed effort.
On the other hand, any problems in a ministry would be blamed on its commissioner.
Oborevwori added that his government has many projects lined up and plans to complete as many as possible before the year ends.
He said he might not be able to open every single project personally but would do all he could.
He also shared his desire to follow the example of President Bola Tinubu, who recently opened several projects in a single location, making it easier for everyone to see what had been done.
He promised to do something similar in Warri, where he will gather and present his government’s projects clearly.
