The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained the reasons behind the delayed payments to ad-hoc workers who participated in the November 16 Ondo State governorship election.
According to the commission, technical issues involving banking errors have hindered the processing of some allowances.
While many ad-hoc staff reported not receiving their payments, INEC clarified that it had initiated the payment process.
Dr. Temitope Akanmu, the commission’s spokesperson in the state, noted that a significant portion of the delay is due to challenges with the financial institutions of the affected workers.
Efforts are reportedly underway to resolve these issues in collaboration with the banks.
The unpaid staff, numbering over 17,000, have expressed dissatisfaction, citing unmet promises of prompt payments. Some have threatened to escalate the matter if their concerns are not addressed soon.
INEC assured that resolving the delays remains a priority, and all outstanding payments would be made promptly once the banking problems are rectified.
