Why Bride Price Is Not Required Before Marriage – Reno Omokri

By Bada Abraham

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has asserted that bride price is not “scripturally required” for non-virgins.

He also emphasized that men who consistently care for their in-laws as a duty are not considered irresponsible. Omokri stressed that taking care of one’s in-laws while neglecting one’s own parents is not a sign of weakness but rather of wickedness, irrespective of any excuses given.

He pointed out that a man’s primary duty is to care for his wife and their offspring, and bride price isn’t even scripturally mandated for non-virgin brides, according to Exodus 22:17.

However, he noted that if a wife chooses to support her family with her income, it should be allowed, but the husband should not let her extend her father’s house into their home, as this would create an imbalance.
