Displaced residents of several communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State have appealed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang to fulfill his promise of returning them to their ancestral homes after being forced out by suspected Fulani militias.
The call was made on Saturday in Jos by the Concerned Mushere Youth Vanguard (CMYV), a youth group speaking on behalf of the affected communities.
Chairman of the group, John Bitrus, lamented that months after the governor pledged to resettle the displaced people, no concrete action has been taken. He said the communities—Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif—remain occupied by their attackers.
Bitrus alleged that the invaders have not only taken over their homes and farmlands but also renamed the communities. He described the situation as “pathetic,” noting that thousands of indigenes have been forced to live in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps or with relatives in other areas since the attacks more than four months ago.
“Our people, the real owners of the land, are roaming about with no hope of when they will return home,” Bitrus said. “Meanwhile, the Fulani people who displaced them move around freely with weapons, graze on our farmlands, and have built tents on our ancestral land.”
The group urged Governor Mutfwang, the state and local governments, and security agencies to intervene urgently to restore peace and enable their return.
