Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has responded to backlash over his role in Love in Every Word, a film directed by Omoni Oboli.
He played Odogwu Obiora, a wealthy Igbo man who spends generously on his partner, Chioma, portrayed by Bambam.
The character has sparked mixed reactions among viewers.
Many women praised the role, saying it reflects how men should treat their partners.
However, some male viewers argued that the film promotes unrealistic expectations in relationships.
A social media user claimed the movie gives a false impression that Igbo men are willing to spend all their money on women.
Reacting to the criticism, Arukwe dismissed claims that taking care of a woman makes a man weak.
He stated that providing for a partner is a natural part of responsibility.
Meanwhile, another critic, Chidozie Odogwudozilla Nnachor, voiced strong disapproval of how the actor represented Igbo men in the film.
He argued that Arukwe’s portrayal could reinforce misleading stereotypes and take years to correct.
Chidozie also took issue with the way Arukwe spoke in the movie, saying no Igbo man talks in such a manner.
