Two Nigerian pilgrims participating in the ongoing 2025 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia have sadly passed away in separate incidents, according to official reports.
The first, Alhaji Saleh Galeh, a well-known cattle merchant and chairman of the Lokpanta Cattle Market in Abia State, died on Monday during the pilgrimage in Makkah.
Widely respected in his community, Alhaji Galeh’s death has drawn tributes from various quarters.
His funeral prayer, known as Salatul Janazah, was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the Haram Mosque in Makkah.
The Islamic Calling Family (ICF), a prominent religious group in Imo State, paid tribute to Galeh in a social media statement, expressing gratitude to Hajj officials for facilitating a swift and proper burial.
“We pray Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the group wrote.
In a separate case, Adizatu Dazumi, a 75-year-old pilgrim from Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, also died during the holy rites.
She reportedly became ill after performing the Tawaaf, which involves walking around the Kaaba, and was admitted to King Fahad Hospital in Makkah on Sunday.
She died the following day.
Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Musah Uduimoh, confirmed Dazumi’s passing, noting that she was buried in line with Islamic traditions shortly after her death.
He said her family had been informed and extended the board’s condolences, adding that measures remain in place to safeguard the welfare of all Edo pilgrims.
These deaths serve as a solemn reminder of the physical demands of the Hajj pilgrimage, especially for elderly participants.
Both pilgrims have since been laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.
