Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a series of coordinated offensives under Operation Hadin Kai, have eliminated at least 24 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.
The military operations, which spanned several days, were conducted in conjunction with the Nigerian Air Force, local vigilantes, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) across insurgent hideouts and logistics routes in the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, disclosed that the operations took place between July 4 and July 9, targeting notorious terrorist enclaves and supply corridors across the region.
He noted that during one of the ambushes at Platari, troops engaged terrorists on bicycles believed to be moving from the Sambisa Forest to the Timbuktu Triangle. “Three terrorists were instantly neutralised during the contact,” Kovangiya said.
Further operations were carried out in Komala, where another terrorist was gunned down and several items including motorcycles, spare parts, sprayers, pesticides, and food supplies were recovered.
Troops also intercepted insurgents attempting to smuggle logistics materials through Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area. Two terrorists were killed during the night operation, with others escaping with gunshot wounds. The soldiers recovered salt, Maggi seasoning, detergents, and other basic commodities.
Other affected locations include Madarari, Leno Kura, Sabsawa, Ngoshe-Gava, Amuda, Tangalanga, Bula Marwa, Manjim, and Wulle villages, where troops launched clearance operations aimed at dislodging the remaining pockets of insurgents and cutting off their supply chains.
The Army spokesperson described the multi-pronged approach as effective, noting that the air and ground offensives had significantly disrupted terrorist movement and logistics in the area.
He reiterated the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East and ensuring that internally displaced persons could return to their communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Army confirmed the recovery of assorted weapons, ammunition, and critical supplies used by the terrorists.
