Tinubu Makes Crucial Appointment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the new Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointment, which takes effect from January 23, 2025, will last for four years. Before this, Aliyu had been serving as the acting head of the agency since March 2024.

With over two decades of experience in energy and organizational development, Aliyu has worked in both private and public sectors. He has been involved in on-grid and off-grid power projects, as well as water resources and transportation.

Before this role, he led the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project. He also held key positions at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET), including General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research.

President Tinubu expects Aliyu to use his knowledge to improve electricity access in rural areas and support the government’s plan for sustainable energy.
