…Aiyedatiwa pledges collaboration to boost regional development
The Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State in the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), Dr Jide Martins Adewinle, has described the creation of the Commission as a revival of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s vision for regional development and self-reliance in the South-West.
Adewinle stated this on Saturday during a thanksgiving reception held in his honour at Adekunbi Hall, Iye Ile Resort Centre, Ode-Aye, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the establishment of the SWDC, had rekindled Awolowo’s dream of a prosperous and economically stable region.
“The South-West Development Commission is a continuation of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s vision for a united and progressive South-West. The initiative by President Tinubu reflects the same spirit of regional growth and development our founding fathers stood for,” he said.
Adewinle explained that the Commission would focus on education, welfare, infrastructure and industrialisation to promote balanced growth and create job opportunities across the region.
“This council was created to ensure development in key sectors, including education, welfare and infrastructure. It will bring about faster progress in the region and improve the economic fortunes of our people,” he added.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his foresight and thanked Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his encouragement and support, promising to discharge his duties diligently and transparently.
In his remarks, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa congratulated Adewinle on his appointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of competence, hard work and service to humanity.
He said, “Dr Adewinle has consistently demonstrated commitment to community development and youth empowerment. His appointment will further project Ondo State as a reservoir of capable individuals who can contribute meaningfully to national development.”
The governor commended President Tinubu for establishing the SWDC, noting that it would bridge developmental disparities and promote sustainable growth in the region.
“With the right leadership and collaboration, the Commission will serve as a veritable tool for economic revitalisation and social transformation across the South-West,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He assured that his administration would work closely with the Commission to promote agricultural advancement, industrialisation and youth empowerment.
“Our government will continue to collaborate with the SWDC and other federal agencies to ensure that Ondo State benefits fully from development opportunities,” he added.
In attendance were the Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Gbegudu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Olusegun Omojuwa; former Deputy Governor, Lasisi Oluboyo; Commissioner for Education, Prof. Femi Ajibefun; Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Dele Akanbi; Special Adviser on Education, Dr Wunmi Odinmayo; and Chairmen of Okitipupa and Ilaje Local Governments, Andrew Ogunsakin and Maurice Oripanye, respectively.
Also present were the Abodi of Ikale, Oba George Babatunde Faduyile, Adegun II; the Jegun of Idepe, Oba Michael Adetoye Obatuga; the Halu of Ode-Aye, Oba William Akinmusayo Akinlade; the representative of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Joseph Moronfoye Okunlola-Oni; and the Managing Director of Mega Chicken, Mr Timothy Olubisi Ayenuyo.
Others included former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Ambassador Sola Iji; Mr Femi Agagu; Evangelist Segun Ayerin; and several Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to the Governor.
Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Andrew Ogunsakin, also used the opportunity to commend the governor for approving a 5km road project in the local government and for the various developmental projects being executed across the state.
