Tinubu Gifts Rice to Student Leaders Nationwide

By Bayero Ade

In a show of support for students during the festive period, President Bola Tinubu has distributed bags of rice to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Politics Nigeria, the distribution took place on Tuesday and was coordinated by the Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday.

Asefon explained that the initiative is part of the President’s continued efforts to support students, especially during the holiday season.

“Today, SUG Presidents across the country will receive rice from President Bola Tinubu, who recognizes the significant role students play not just in the future, but in the present as well,” Asefon remarked.

While initially scheduled for December 2024, the rice distribution was delayed and only arrived in Abuja on December 28.

Representatives from each zone were invited to the capital, where two SUG Presidents from each zone were selected to manage and oversee the distribution.

Asefon hailed the initiative as a first of its kind, noting that no sitting President in Nigeria has previously reached out directly to student leaders during the festive season.

He also promised more benefits for students under the Presidential initiative in 2024 and encouraged them to continue engaging with the government and sharing their perspectives.

Fahad Abdullahi, SUG President at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the student leaders, thanking the President for the thoughtful gesture.
