Benue Declares Wednesday Holiday Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit

The Benue State Government has announced that Wednesday, June 18, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is set to visit the state.

The visit is meant to offer condolences to the people of Benue following a series of attacks in parts of the state.

President Tinubu is expected to spend the day meeting with state leaders and communities affected by recent violence, especially the deadly assault in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 lives were lost.

Thousands of residents have also been forced from their homes as a result of similar attacks across the state.

The government explained that the public holiday will give residents a chance to receive the President warmly.

However, those working in essential services such as health care, security, and banking will continue their duties as usual.

This visit comes at a time when Benue has been battling repeated attacks believed to be carried out by armed herdsmen.

In response to the ongoing crisis, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration plans to launch a local security outfit aimed at protecting residents and improving safety in rural areas.

Authorities are calling on citizens to show support by coming out to receive the President during his time in the state.
