President Bola Tinubu on Friday commended the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for endorsing the four tax reform bills currently being considered by the National Assembly.

According to NAN, the president praised the governors for their exemplary leadership, emphasizing their commitment to unity and development across Nigeria, regardless of regional, ethnic, or political differences.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Thursday’s successful consultation between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy as a significant demonstration of cooperation between the federal and state governments.

He specifically lauded Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, NGF Chairman, for rallying support among his colleagues for the tax reforms aimed at revitalizing the national economy and improving Nigeria’s investment climate.

The president also extended his gratitude to the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other groups for their role in resolving disputes surrounding the tax bills.

President Tinubu highlighted the bills’ pro-poor focus, which he said would foster national growth, enhance Nigeria’s economic competitiveness, and attract both local and foreign investments. He stressed that updating the country’s outdated tax laws was a vital step in this process.

Acknowledging the positive outcome of the dialogue between the NGF and the Presidential Committee, the president urged stakeholders to continue contributing to the legislative process, offering suggestions to improve the bills.

Finally, President Tinubu called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the tax reform bills, underscoring the importance of swift action to maximize the benefits of these crucial reforms.
