President Bola Tinubu has unveiled plans to construct a new national secretariat for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Tinubu made the announcement on Thursday during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
“We’ll look for an appropriate land to build a befitting secretariat,” the President said, signaling the party’s readiness to begin the process of establishing a more suitable headquarters.
He, however, did not disclose the estimated cost or timeline for the project.
Currently, the APC operates from the Muhammadu Buhari House, located at 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja. The party acquired the property in 2021 for N2.5 billion and named it after former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Despite the Buhari House serving as the party’s national secretariat, Thursday’s NEC meeting was moved to the Presidential Villa, further underscoring the need for a more accommodating and representative facility.
The planned construction comes at a time the party is undergoing internal restructuring and leadership changes, including the recent emergence of Dr. Yilwatda Nentawe as the new APC national chairman.
