Abdul-Majeed Al Mustapha, a member of the All Progressives Congress known as Dan-Bilki Komanda, was assaulted by thugs on Thursday for allegedly insulting Governor Uba Sani.
A video circulating on social media shows Komanda handcuffed and being severely beaten by individuals angered by his criticisms of Governor Sani. The time and location of the incident have not been verified by Peoples Gazette. Both Komanda and his attackers spoke in Hausa in the footage.
In the video, one of the assailants accuses Komanda of insulting Governor Sani, asking, “Why are you insulting Governor Uba Sani? Are you from Kaduna?” while repeatedly striking him and ordering him to “kneel down.” Komanda responds, “I’m not from Kaduna; I’m from Kano. I’m a northerner and a Nigerian. I did not insult Mr. Sani,” while pleading for the violence to stop.
In another video, Komanda claims that the attackers were sent to beat him. He says they had been tracking him, handcuffed him, and assaulted him. They reportedly offered him a phone to speak to Governor Sani, which he refused.
The footage has sparked widespread criticism of the Governor, though his administration has publicly condemned the actions of the attackers.
Kaduna State government spokesperson Muhammad Lawal-Shehu addressed the incident in a statement, saying: “The Kaduna State government is aware of a viral video showing Dan-Bilki Komanda being beaten by unidentified individuals. The video includes accusations against the Kaduna State government.”
“The Kaduna State government wishes to strongly disassociate itself from this heinous act. It is not in our character. Such barbaric acts have no place in a decent society.”
