The Economic Community of West African States on Sunday said that it was ready for “a negotiated solution” after Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announced they were quitting the group. The three countries are “important members of the community,” and the bloc “remains committed to finding a negotiated solution to the political impasse,” said ECOWAS in a statement, adding that it had “yet to receive any direct formal notification” from the countries about their withdrawal. Three-year-old, five others abducted in Ondo, Niger

  Six persons have been abducted by gunmen in Niger and Ondo states. While five were whisked away by bandits in Niger, a three-year-old was kidnapped in Ondo. Those abducted in Niger were returning from the weekly Beji market when the gunmen attacked them in Shiroro council of the state. Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, learnt of the incident on a radio programme when a listener called in to report it. Bandits Carryout Fresh Attacks On Four Communities In Niger, Over 1200 Sacked

Unknown gunmen have attacked communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger state, sacking more than one thousand two hundred residents from their homes. The fresh attacks come barely one month after armed bandits attacked seven communities in the same area, killing two women a child and sacking over five thousand persons from their homes. The renewed attacks on Gyaramiya, Bataron Jatau and Bataron Waziri communities took place at about 10:am on Wednesday.
