Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, on Sunday launched the construction of two smart markets in Okene and Okehi local government areas.
She made it clear that her recent suspension did not stop her from serving her constituents.
The new markets are aimed at helping local traders, especially women, by boosting business activities at the grassroots.
Each market will have 80 shops, made up of 40 lock-up stalls and 40 open stalls.
The facilities will include solar power, boreholes, clean toilets, power sockets, loading areas for trucks, and streetlights to improve safety.
The Ihima Central Market in Oboroke, Okehi LGA, and a new community market in Okene LGA were chosen for the project because of their space and potential to grow.
These markets form part of Senator Natasha’s wider plan to improve the economy and infrastructure in Kogi Central.
The project is expected to be ready for use by November 2025, which marks two years since she took office.
Senator Natasha explained that her role as a lawmaker goes beyond party lines, adding that her focus remains on development that benefits all residents of the district.
The event drew support from traditional rulers, women’s groups, and youth organisations, who praised her determination to keep working despite political challenges.
