Security operatives have arrested a suspected cult leader, Favour Nosaghare, and four other students at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, over alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
The arrest followed a tip-off from the university’s security unit, which reported that Nosaghare—who had previously been suspended from the institution for cultism—was spotted back on campus on Sunday, July 28, around 3:20 p.m., in the company of other suspected cultists.
Acting swiftly, law enforcement authorities apprehended four additional suspects identified as Emmanuel Omogiyo, Osaigie Gerald, Obiorah Chukwudi, and Esther Chukwuma. All five are reportedly students of the university and are suspected members of the Black Axe confraternity, also known as Aye.
During the arrest, security operatives reportedly recovered various incriminating items, including several wraps of Indian hemp, a pack of rolling papers (Rizla), and a metal grinder—items typically associated with the use of illicit drugs.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the lead suspect, Nosaghare, confessed to the allegations, further linking the group to cult-related activities on campus.
Authorities have since launched a deeper investigation into the matter, with the aim of identifying other collaborators and curbing cultism within the university community.
University officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment, emphasizing zero tolerance for cultism, drug abuse, and other forms of criminal behavior.
