First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu had a confrontation with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Sunday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during an event celebrating the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where she was awarded the chieftaincy title of Yeye-Asiwaju of Ile Oodua.
The event was attended by Adeleke and numerous dignitaries from across the nation, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, current and former governors, senators, and traditional rulers.
As part of the celebration, Governor Adeleke took to the podium to deliver a speech. True to his usual style, he danced for a few moments before starting to sing.
At this point, the First Lady approached him and stated, “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough.”
Despite her request, Adeleke continued to sing. Mrs. Tinubu returned to him, warning, “I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.”
Videos of the exchange have since gone viral on social media.
Following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Adeleke has been exploring a new political party to run for a second term. In a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, he cited the party’s internal crisis as the reason for his decision.
On December 2, Adedamola Adebayo was selected as the PDP candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.
In the meantime, after receiving her title, Senator Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria’s prosperity beginning next year would be “unstoppable,” despite the doubts expressed by some critics.
“By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity. Other countries will come and borrow money from us. Those wondering how we will do it, we will show them,” she remarked, adding that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would astonish many with its accomplishments.
The First Lady also expressed gratitude to the Ooni for the honor, noting that it had reintroduced her to the social spotlight, remarking that her last significant public appearance was during her 50th birthday celebration.
