Stop Calling My Daughter Duduke, Simi Cautions Fans

Popular Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, professionally known as Simi, has issued a gentle but firm warning to fans and members of the public, urging them to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke”.

The award-winning artiste, who is married to fellow music star, Adekunle Gold, made the appeal during a recent chat with media personality, VJ Adams.

Simi explained that although the name “Duduke” gained popularity from her 2020 hit song of the same title, which she released while pregnant with her daughter, it was never intended to become a name for the child.

DAILY POST recalls that shortly after the release of Duduke, the couple welcomed their first child, Adejare, in June 2020. The song, filled with emotional lyrics and soft rhythms, resonated widely with fans and expectant mothers alike, eventually becoming symbolic of motherhood. This led many fans to begin referring to Simi’s daughter as “Duduke”.

However, Simi has now expressed her discomfort with the trend, clarifying that “Duduke” has no significant meaning and was only used in the song as an onomatopoeic expression to represent her heartbeat for her unborn child.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything,” the singer said.

She continued, “Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat — duduke, duduke — that was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.”

Simi added with a touch of humour, “Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it. It’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”

The singer’s statement appears to be a heartfelt attempt to protect her daughter’s identity while appreciating the love and admiration from her fans.
