Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has announced the commencement of a nationwide mobilization for a peaceful march to the Aso Rock Villa to demand the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore made the announcement on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, stating that the movement, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow #MNK20, marks the beginning of coordinated action aimed at securing Kanu’s freedom.
“Today, we’ve commenced the nationwide mobilization for #FreeNnamdiKanuNow #MNK20 March to Aso Rock Villa,” Sowore wrote.
The activist, who has been vocal about human rights and political accountability in Nigeria, recently challenged political leaders, especially those from the Southeast, to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action in support of Kanu’s release.
In an earlier post, Sowore had called on Southeast leaders including Governor Charles Soludo, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Governor Alex Otti, and Peter Obi to join him in a peaceful, legal, and visible march to the Presidential Villa.
He emphasized that the protest would be peaceful and lawful, urging all Nigerians of conscience to participate in demanding justice and an end to what he described as the “persecution” of the IPOB leader.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate, has consistently maintained that peaceful resistance and civic action remain key tools for holding the government accountable in democratic societies.
