In a momentous development for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Nicholas Tofowomo has extended heartfelt congratulations to Olorogun Eddy Olafeso, PhD, following his appointment as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Starnews NG reports that this landmark appointment marks a significant achievement for Ondo South, which has long been underrepresented at the highest levels of the party.
Senator Tofowomo, reflecting on their enduring friendship that began over four decades ago at the University of Ife, shared fond memories of Olafeso’s early leadership. “I knew Olafeso in 1980 when I gained admission to the University of Ife to study Geography. Two years later, he became the Students’ Union President. I was so committed to his cause that I managed all his campaign posters at Awolowo Hall. I have always shown love to him, and I will continue to love him and stand by him always, just as I did during his challenging times,” he reminisced.
According to a statement issued by Ayodedji Allen, on Wednesday, the outspoken Senator emphasised the importance of Olafeso’s new role, stating, “Being the first BoT member from Ondo South, the appointment is significant because Ondo Central and Ondo North have had BoT members for over 22 years, Ondo South has not been so lucky. It is indeed unfortunate, but I congratulate my leader, Chief Olafeso, and I’m happy for him as the first appointee from our senatorial district.”
Senator Tofowomo expressed his optimism for the future, wishing Olafeso every success in his new position. He hopes that Olafeso’s representation will usher in positive change for both the PDP and the people of Ondo South.
This appointment is not just a personal triumph for Olafeso but also a pivotal moment for the region, signalling the potential for increased influence and advocacy within the party.
