Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Kaduna South in the National Assembly, has rejected a media report that linked his wife, Mrs. Abigail Katung, to a money laundering case in the United Kingdom.
He described the information as untrue and misleading.
The senator reacted through a statement released on Tuesday, where he said the report misrepresented facts about the case and wrongly dragged his wife into an issue she had no connection with.
He referred to a judgment in the case that clearly stated his wife had no knowledge of the criminal activities involved.
According to him, the report used a misleading headline that did not reflect the court’s decision.
The judgment, which was part of a civil case, not a criminal trial, stated that Mrs. Katung had no knowledge of the financial crimes committed by another individual involved in the matter.
The senator’s office said the media platform ignored this detail and instead published a headline that gave a false impression.
It also revealed that the case is still under appeal and warned against drawing conclusions until the legal process ends.
Senator Katung assured the public that he and his wife have always lived within the law.
He also said they would take legal steps to challenge the report and protect their reputation.
