The nation news reported that the Nigerian Senate has voiced its opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to Niger Republic following the recent military coup. During a closed-door session, the senators expressed their concerns about the use of force against the Nigerien government and firmly rejected the proposal to cut off electricity supplies to Niger Republic.
The senators raised apprehensions that military action could exacerbate the situation in Niger Republic, potentially leading to further violence. They emphasized that any such action might not yield the desired outcomes and could have adverse consequences for both countries.
Moreover, the proposal to cut off electricity supplies was also met with resistance from the senators, who highlighted the potential harm it could cause to ordinary Nigeriens, who are innocent and had no involvement in the coup.
Senate President appealed for support towards President Tinubu’s measures, but the senators remained adamant in their rejection.
