Former Senator representing Ekiti North, Ayo Arise, has expressed optimism that the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, will soon return to office, following ongoing reconciliation efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking with journalists on Saturday, Arise lauded President Tinubu for taking what he described as a courageous and stabilising step to prevent a further breakdown of law and order in Rivers State amid the political crisis rocking the state.
He said the President’s intervention was aimed at preserving peace and fostering unity, adding that both factions involved in the crisis had agreed to cooperate with the peace process.
According to the APC chieftain, President Tinubu’s action was rooted in the doctrine of necessity, noting that the decision to suspend Governor Fubara was not taken lightly but in the best interest of democratic stability.
Arise also responded to recent remarks by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who credited former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, with saving him from removal as governor of Borno State during his tenure.
He clarified that Shettima’s comments were a show of gratitude and should not be misinterpreted as criticism of President Tinubu’s actions in the Rivers State situation.
“The two scenarios are completely different,” Arise said. “What the President has done is to forestall anarchy. It was a necessary intervention to calm tensions and allow for proper resolution.”
He stressed that with the level of dialogue already initiated, there are strong indications that Governor Fubara would soon be reinstated as efforts to restore normalcy in Rivers State continue.
