Rivers Court Overturns PDP Suspension of Federal Lawmaker

By Our Correspondent

The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has invalidated the suspension of Awaji-Inombek Abiante, the federal lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro constituency.

The court declared the action, initiated in May by a factional caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as unconstitutional.

The suspension, attributed to a group aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, accused Abiante of anti-party activities and fostering divisions at the ward level.

However, the court ruled that the group lacked legal authority to suspend him and criticized the absence of fair hearing in the process.

Justice G.O. Ollor emphasized that the committee’s actions violated the PDP’s constitution and dismissed the claims as baseless.

The decision reaffirms Abiante’s position as a legitimate PDP member and dismisses the allegations against him.

Abiante described the ruling as a victory for justice, asserting that the suspension attempt was a strategy by political detractors to undermine the state government’s efforts.

He urged constituents to remain supportive of the Siminalayi Fubara-led administration, pledging continued collaboration to enhance development in Rivers State.
