Residents flee as gunmen attack Tor-Donga community in Benue

Panic and confusion engulfed the Tor-Donga community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday morning following a violent attack by suspected gunmen.

Eyewitnesses reported that the heavily armed assailants stormed the area at dawn, riding on motorcycles and firing gunshots indiscriminately. The surprise onslaught sent residents fleeing in different directions, abandoning their homes and belongings in a desperate bid for survival.

“People were running in all directions. We abandoned our homes and properties; everyone just wanted to stay alive,” a survivor told reporters, recounting the terror that gripped the community.

While the full extent of the casualties remains unclear, several residents were reportedly injured in the chaos, and some individuals are still missing as families remain scattered in the aftermath.

As of the time of this report, security forces were yet to establish full control of the area, heightening fears of further attacks.

Local authorities have called for calm and assured that efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy and investigate the incident. The Benue State Police Command is yet to release an official statement on the attack.

The Tor-Donga assault adds to a series of violent incidents that have plagued parts of Benue State, raising renewed concerns over the security situation in the region.
