The House of Representatives has instructed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to suspend enforcing the ban on tinted vehicle glass for 90 days.
During this period, authorities are expected to focus on educating residents about the policy.
The decision came after a motion raised in the House addressing complaints of harassment and vehicle impoundment
Lawmakers criticized the abrupt implementation, noting it has caused unnecessary hardship for vehicle owners who were not given sufficient notice or clarity on compliance procedures.
To address the situation, the House also directed the return of all seized vehicles and urged the Ministry of Information and Culture to collaborate with stakeholders on a public awareness campaign.
Additionally, the Police Affairs Committee has been tasked with working alongside police leadership to create clear and consistent guidelines for similar enforcement measures in the future.
The ban on tinted glasses, initially intended to combat crimes like kidnapping, has sparked public outcry due to perceived overreach and insufficient preparation.
Lawmakers emphasized the need for a more organized approach that balances security efforts with the rights and convenience of citizens.
