Rainstorm destroys property in Ondo

Residents of Ipogun community in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State have appealed to the state government to come to their aid following the destruction of their property by rainstorm.

The rainfall, which occurred on Tuesday, was said to have wreaked havoc on the community, destroying property worth millions of naira.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the rainstorm destroyed houses, shops, schools, church, electric poles and a health centre in the community.

Some residents were said to have been rendered homeless by the natural disaster.

One of the affected residents, who identified herself only as Mrs Ajayi, lamented that the rainstorm destroyed her shop and goods.

“It was just too heavy as we could not take out anything from the shop because the downpour lasted for two hours and many houses were affected. We are begging Governor Akeredolu and other well-meaning Nigerians to assist us,” she added.

Another victim, Tosin Adewumi, said his house was damaged by the rainstorm

Adewumi said, “It was like a drama when the heavy rain started yesterday (Tuesday). Before we knew what was happening, the roofs had been blown off and the rain entered the house.”

The traditional ruler of the community, Oba Raphael Ojo, described the incident as sad and the most pathetic in the history of the town.

He called on relevant agencies of the state and federal governments for assistance.
