A power outage has disrupted electricity supply in several parts of Abuja, affecting eight foreign embassies and multiple residential estates.
The blackout, which occurred between March 18 and 23, was linked to technical issues on a power feeder managed by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
During this period, AEDC reported a total of seven power interruptions, with six caused by technical problems and one resulting from a scheduled maintenance exercise.
Key establishments such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Garki General Hospital, and the National Library were among those affected.
The most recent outage extended to several embassies, including those of the United States, Turkey, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iran, Liberia, Egypt, and Japan.
Residential areas also impacted by the blackout include Brains & Hammer City Estate, Paradise Estate, Katsina Estate, Today Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, Dape District, American Embassy Estate, and parts of Gwarinpa.
AEDC assured residents and institutions that efforts were ongoing to fix the technical fault and restore electricity as soon as possible.
The company acknowledged the inconvenience caused and requested continued patience from affected customers.
In addition to these disruptions, AEDC has scheduled another maintenance operation for March 23, 2025.
During this activity, prepaid meter users may experience temporary challenges when recharging or accessing vending services.
However, AEDC assured users that normal services would resume promptly after the maintenance is concluded.
The company apologized to residents and businesses for the inconvenience and reiterated its commitment to resolving the outages quickly.
