The Kaduna State Police Command has uncovered unexploded military-grade bombs and a cache of arms concealed in a waste consignment transported from Borno State to Kaduna.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed that the dangerous items were discovered on August 2, 2025, following credible intelligence.
According to Hassan, the explosives were found at a scavenger company located in the Kudandan Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a specialized team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, led by its commander, was deployed to the scene. Upon thorough inspection, the team confirmed that the suspicious materials were unexploded ordnance (UXOs).
“The EOD operatives safely evacuated the explosives to a secure location for controlled demolition, in line with established safety protocols,” the police spokesperson stated.
Further searches led to the recovery of additional weapons, including one locally fabricated revolver pistol loaded with six rounds, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, three live cartridges, and other assorted arms.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, ordered the immediate sealing of the facility to allow a comprehensive sweep of the premises by EOD personnel, ensuring no residual explosive devices were left behind.
The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to scavenger companies to desist from transporting scrap materials from insurgency-affected regions, stressing the security risks such activities pose to the state.
He condemned the movement of such hazardous materials and assured the public that investigations were ongoing to trace the source and purpose of the recovered explosives.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
