Police Reveal Truth Behind Enugu Treasury Fraud Allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has addressed the case of ₦1.09 billion allegedly stolen from the Enugu State Government’s account, clarifying what truly happened.

Contrary to online claims of a cyberattack, the theft was identified as procurement fraud during an investigation by the National Cyber Crime Centre.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, and the funds have been recovered.

Initial reports circulating on social media suggested that hackers infiltrated the state government’s account, leading to widespread concern about the security of financial systems.

However, the police investigation uncovered that the theft was an inside job rather than a cyber breach.

A suspect linked to the fraud was apprehended in Enugu State.

The recovery of the stolen money was confirmed, and authorities reassured the public that the financial systems of the state government remain secure.

The police also urged the public to verify information before spreading unconfirmed reports.

They emphasized the importance of accurate information, noting that misinformation could cause unnecessary panic. Collaborative efforts with the National Cyber Crime Centre have strengthened safeguards for government accounts, ensuring tighter controls against future fraud attempts.
