The Lagos State Police Command has denied reports that officers prevented movement and barred journalists from entering the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The clarification comes amid the ongoing leadership crisis following the impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa in January by 36 out of 40 lawmakers.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin addressed the issue on Monday, stating that the police commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, deployed more officers to the Assembly complex to prevent any possible violence.
He explained that the security presence was meant to stop thugs and other troublemakers from causing chaos.
Hundeyin assured that journalists and individuals with legitimate reasons to enter the Assembly complex were not restricted.
However, traffic around the area was redirected as a precautionary measure to maintain order.
The situation at the Assembly remains tense as lawmakers prepare for an emergency plenary session.
