NURTW Official to Face Trial Over Alleged Murder, Assault in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and impending arraignment of a 55-year-old official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, over his alleged involvement in separate cases of murder and assault on Lagos Island.

According to police reports, Oladiti, who is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, is facing investigation for two violent incidents.

On September 17, at about 3:00 p.m., he allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, beating him with a helmet and his fists.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, placed on oxygen, and remains under intensive medical care.

The following day, police received another complaint linking the suspect to an earlier incident on August 28. In that case, Oladiti was accused of repeatedly striking a man with a metallic ring during a fight, leaving him with severe injuries to the head and face. Despite medical intervention, the victim died on September 17, and his body has since been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who led a team of officers to the crime scene, assured residents that the suspect would face justice. “The suspect is in custody, and thorough investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served,” he said.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi also confirmed the development, adding that Oladiti will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
