The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two children who were abducted in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, on Saturday.
According to him, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when one Aliyu Hamisu, a resident of Tilden Fulani, reported that his two children — Halima Hamisu (12) and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu (6) — were kidnapped while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, swung into action, visited the scene, and launched a detailed investigation,” Wakil said.
He added that preliminary investigations revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children. The suspect later contacted the family, demanding a ₦50 million ransom, which was later negotiated down to ₦1.2 million, to be delivered around Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi.
“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives cordoned off the area, leading to the arrest of the suspect while collecting the ransom,” Wakil explained.
Further investigation, according to the police, led to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two abducted children were safely rescued and reunited with their parents.
Wakil identified the prime suspect as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims, who reportedly confessed to the crime and cited long-standing family grievances as his motive.
In a related operation, Wakil noted that the command has intensified efforts to tackle rising motorcycle theft across the state.
He revealed that operatives, in collaboration with local security outfits, arrested one Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of the Gwallaga area with a suspected stolen white Jincheng motorcycle valued at ₦100,000. The suspect confessed to stealing the bike, and investigations are ongoing.
Similarly, another suspect, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, was arrested for stealing a black Haojue motorcycle belonging to Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi. He admitted to planning to dismantle and sell the motorcycle as scrap.
The police spokesperson assured that all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations, while reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Bauchi State.
