Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a criminal syndicate alleged to be behind a series of armed robberies and fraud-related crimes across the state.
The suspects, arrested between August 11 and 16, 2025, were identified as Ibrukoko (32), Obruche (31), Lucky Umukoro (28), Emmanuel Burutu (22), Musa Abdulahi (27), Sokoh (30), Preye Julius (36), and Kadija Abass (30).
Confirming the arrest in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the breakthrough followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team.
According to him, the syndicate operated mainly in Warri, Ughelli, and other parts of Delta and Edo States, targeting unsuspecting victims through deceit and hypnosis.
“The suspects approach their victims under the guise of seeking directions, only to hypnotize, rob, and defraud them of their valuables, including phones, motorcycles, jewellery, and even money from their bank accounts,” Edafe stated.
Recovered items from the suspects include two Toyota Camry vehicles with registration numbers LND-809-HE and KSF-61-JU, as well as 16 suspected stolen iPhones.
Preliminary investigations, the police said, revealed that the gang has so far defrauded at least 12 victims of over ₦23.5 million, in addition to carting away 42 ladies’ motorcycles and several mobile devices.
Edafe added that the suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in custody, while further investigations are ongoing to track other members of the gang and recover more stolen property.
