The Kwara State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Haruna Ahamadu, from his abductors’ den in the Omu-Aran forest, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development in a statement released in Ilorin on Thursday.
According to the police, the operation followed credible intelligence that led to a joint effort between security operatives and members of a local vigilante group.

Ejire-Adeyemi disclosed that two suspects — Ayisa Ibrahim (female) and Yakubu Hassan (male) — were arrested during the operation, while others escaped into the forest. A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.

“The Kwara State Police Command recorded another success in its sustained operation against kidnappers in the state,” the statement read. “Acting on credible intelligence, officers and local vigilantes stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in Omu-Aran forest and rescued the victim unhurt.”

She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism during the rescue.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to “dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents across Kwara State.”

Ejire-Adeyemi also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose strategic vision, she said, continues to strengthen policing efficiency nationwide.
Residents were urged to continue providing timely information to security agencies, as the police intensify efforts to curb kidnappings and related crimes in the state.

The operation adds to recent security breakthroughs in Kwara. Earlier this week, the Nigerian Army rescued 23 kidnap victims from forests along the Kwara–Kogi border and handed them over to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
