The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the vandalisation of a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, and Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State, were apprehended following a swift response by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bunza and local vigilantes.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday. He said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on September 10, when the suspects stormed the school premises, tied up the watchman, and dismantled the transformer using chainsaws and other mechanical tools.
“A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used by the suspects, was recovered at the scene, along with vandalised armoured cable wires and the tools used in the crime.
While two of the suspects were arrested on the spot, further discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the fleeing gang members,” Abubakar said.
The police spokesman added that the suspects are in custody and will soon be charged in court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the swift response of the Bunza DPO and the vigilance of community members. He stressed that strong police-community collaboration is vital in tackling criminal activities.
He also assured residents of Kebbi State that the command remains committed to flushing out criminal elements and creating a safer environment, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
