Police arrest driver over alleged unlawful possession of two pistols

 

In Lagos State, the police have apprehended a driver named Azeez Babatunde on suspicion of possessing two locally-made pistols unlawfully in the Maroko area.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson for the state, confirmed the arrest via a post on his verified X handle @benHundeyin on Thursday.

According to Hundeyin, the suspect was nabbed by patrolling officers while his accomplices managed to evade capture.

“At about 5:00 a.m., anti-crime patrol officers from Maroko Division noticed a minibus do a quick U-turn upon sighting them on Hakeem Dickson Street. The officers went in pursuit, but six persons jumped out of the vehicle, running in different directions.

“The officers caught up with the vehicle and arrested the only person left in the vehicle, the driver, Babatunde,” Hundeyin said.

Hundeyin added that when the vehicle was searched, two locally-made pistols, two unexpended cartridges and a knife were found.

The spokesperson said that investigation into the case was ongoing.
