Peter Obi Open to Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his willingness to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, as long as it prioritizes the welfare and progress of ordinary Nigerians.

According to Politics Nigeria, Obi made this clarification on Tuesday in a post on his official X account, addressing reports that claimed he had rejected coalition efforts led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders. He stated that his stance had been misrepresented in the media.

“I am not against coalition. In fact, I support it—not for a power grab but to position Nigeria for greatness. I will never advocate for any alliance that does not put the interests of ordinary Nigerians first,” Obi stated.

He emphasized that governance must focus on critical issues such as access to quality healthcare, education, and poverty reduction. He also criticized past political alliances formed solely for power, arguing that such arrangements have only deepened Nigeria’s challenges.

“Leadership must be about service, not self-interest. A New Nigeria is possible, but we must change our approach to power. It should not be about seizing control but about using it responsibly to transform lives and secure a better future,” he added.

Obi, who placed third in the 2023 presidential election, remains committed to advocating for governance reforms that prioritize the needs of the Nigerian people.
