Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Tuesday disclosed that he survived a serious train accident abroad, sparking reactions online.
Omokri made the announcement in a post on his verified X handle (formerly Twitter), noting that the incident could have been politicised if it had happened in Nigeria.
“I’ve just been involved in a serious train crash abroad. If it happened in Nigeria, Peter Obi would blame President Tinubu and de-market Nigeria,” Omokri wrote.
The former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has been vocal on social media, often engaging in political debates and strongly criticising opposition figures. His latest statement, while expressing relief at surviving the crash, also reignited his longstanding criticism of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Omokri has consistently accused Obi of portraying Nigeria in a negative light whenever national issues arise, particularly on matters relating to governance, the economy, and infrastructure. He argued that such comments, in his view, harm the country’s image on the international stage.
While further details about the train accident, including its location and cause, remain sketchy, Omokri assured his followers that he was safe. His post has since drawn a wave of mix reactions, with supporters expressing gratitude for his safety, while others faulted him for using a near-tragic incident to attack a political opponent.
